MXTS 2010 Preview: Elliott Brood
Elliott Brood is a Juno-nominated three-piece alternative country band from Toronto, and we are happy as all get-out to welcome them to MXTS 2010. “Juno-nominated” is code for “kind of a big deal in Canada” and their brand of alt-country is something they call “death country.” Sure, it’s a sinister sounding name, but it’s actually a little warmer and friendlier than that — fast-paced and more jangly than twangy. Texans will approve.
Anyone who doubts the band’s alt-country bona-fides should consider this: Elliott Brood will also be playing down the street at The Continental Club during the No Depression Showcase during SXSW. Can I get a yee-haw? The band also contributed music to the soundtrack to the Canadian indie film, Grown Up Movie Star, which debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Be sure to ask them how Robert Redford looked.
