MXTS 2010 Preview: Lost in the Trees
Hot off the press! The Chapel Hill, N.C., band Lost in the Trees signed to Anti- Records as of March 1. Anti- Records – home to artists such as Neko Case, DeVotchKa, Tom Waits, Bob Mould, and Austin’s own Roky Erickson – will release an expanded version of the band’s 2008 album, All Alone In An Empty House, which frontman Ari Picker co-produced with Scott Solter (Superchunk, Spoon, St. Vincent). The album will also include two new tracks and will see a release this spring on vinyl and CD. But hey, that’s the second-best thing that happens to them this month. The best, of course, is appearing on the patio at Home Slice for MXTS 2010!
Lost in the Trees‘ brand of orchestral folk is reminiscent of Nick Drake, or for those who want a Texas-centric frame of reference, Austin’s Balmorhea or Fort Worth’s The Theater Fire. It’s spare, haunting and finely crafted.
