MXTS 2011 Preview: Thao with The Get Down Stay Down

Posted in Music and other Arts by Tara Bouley on February 10, 2011

The music of Thao with The Get Down Stay Down is fresh. It’s ebullient and energetic, with personal and storied lyrics steeped in the tradition of folk rock. The vocals are at once both confident and raw, always seeming to teeter on the edge of key, creating an interesting tension in the otherwise upbeat songs. Thao’s jangly and rhythmic guitar playing drives many of the songs into a riotous, joyful frenzy that makes you want to jump up and down while you dance – and you will be dancing. The line from “Swimming Pools”  best captures the spirit of Thao’s music — “We don’t dive, we cannonball.”

Thao with The Get Down Stay Down are playing Music by the Slice Friday, March 18th at 5:50 PM. Full line up coming soon!
