MXTS 2011 Preview: Kopecky Family Band

Posted in Music and other Arts by Tara Bouley on February 22, 2011

Kopecky Family Band are a septet from Nashville who are less factually related as they are a group of chosen family. On their self-released 2010 7 song EP, The Disaster, they turned a lot of heads, including ours. Lucky us. Since then, they’ve released an EP of companion songs to The Disaster called Of Epic Proportions including a remix of ‘God & Me’ and a reinvention of ‘Disaster.’

As the musical generations have cross-pollenated sound and genre, Kopecky Family Band has an unmistakably modern sound in that no one influence rings so clear as to overshadow their distinctive voice. The members of KFB were a close-knit group of friends before starting the band and this harmony of souls is exemplified in the way the male and female vocals weave together so beautifully. The passionate performers cull influence from Arcade Fire to Grant Lee Buffalo. However you slice it, their songs are emotional, layered and orchestral. Sometimes light with delicate strings or pulsing with the rythm of seven performers driving in unison towards the hole in your heart.

Kopecky Family Band are performing at Music by the Slice Friday, March 18th at 3:30 PM.
