MXTS 2011 Preview: Ivan and Alyosha

Posted in Music and other Arts by Tara Bouley on February 25, 2011

As with the title of the crowd favorite off their first EP, ‘Easy to Love,’ indeed Ivan & Alyosha’s music is easy to love. It’s hard for me to put my finger on exactly the one thing that buoys my spirit when I listen to their music. I don’t think it’s a thing. I think it’s a synergy of all the musical elements that make an altogether timeless sound to their music. The multi-part vocal harmonies are wonderful and while they are definitely influenced by the pre-MTV idea of pop music, they merely nod to the music of the 60s. Ivan & Aloysha have certainly carved out their own warm sound on their two EPs The Verse, The Chorus and Fathers Be Kind, released in March 2009 and February 2011 respectively. While this Seattle-based group started off as a songwriting duo of Tim Wilson and Ryan Carbary, I & A are now a band of five currently touring North America.

Ivan & Alyosha will perform at Music by the Slice Thursday March 17th at 4:40 pm.
